Clay Trinkle, PMHNP-BC

Are you looking for peace of mind in the stress of everyday life? Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, ADHD, bipolar disorder, thought disorders, or simply feeling mentally and emotionally drained, you don’t have to navigate it alone. My name is Clay Trinkle and I would love to help you find a path forward. Seeking mental health care can feel overwhelming, especially when stigma or uncertainty gets in the way. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

As a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I believe mental health treatment works best as a collaborative partnership. I take a holistic, evidence-based approach that considers a person’s mind, body, lifestyle, relationships, and personal goals rather than focusing only on symptoms. When medication is appropriate, I believe in using the minimum effective dose while combining treatment with practical strategies that support long-term resilience and quality of life.

I was born and raised in Roanoke and have worked in mental health care for over 10 years. I have held various psychiatric positions in Richmond and here in Roanoke at Carilion Clinic, including in nursing leadership. Having grown up in this community and spent my career serving it, I understand its unique strengths and challenges and value building authentic connections with the people I work with. I offer both in-person appointments in Roanoke, VA and telehealth services throughout Virginia.

I hold a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Virginia, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Radford University Carilion, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance degree with a concentration in Jazz Studies from James Madison University. Starting my education and career in music taught me the value of listening, patience, and meeting people where they are. That foundation, combined with rigorous clinical training, has shaped my belief that healing is deeply personal and that every individual deserves compassionate, individualized care. If you’re ready to take the next step toward feeling more grounded, balanced, and connected, we can work together toward helping you feel more like yourself again.
